The story had sucked me in, despite the long-winded whinging by the three main characters. I was even not so sorry when Mike died - one less whinger! But then he'd faked it and I was angry with him for hurting the other two. Then he died anyway and I wasn't sure what to make of that. The Hodbins grew on me and it was pretty obvious what Elaine/Merope would do. (There's a lot of obvious to the reader, not obvious to the characters going on) So the whole thing was infuriating and enjoyable in its own way. I would've liked to have known more about the future world - how long *did* Colin try to bring them back? I liked it much better than the Passage, but less than the Doomsday Book (though I read that ages ago and might not like it as much now - I remember crying) It looks like the grad students might not be allowed near WWII anymore - where will they go next?
