The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, #1)

Lavinia - Ursula K. Le Guin This is the kind of book that makes you wish you'd had a classical education. LeGuin takes a minor character from the Aeneid and fleshes her out with the story she should have had. I wasn't actually in the mood for a war story, but the details of the life of this ancestor of Rome are fascinating. What really made this story stand out was Lavinia's relationship to Vergil who contacts her in sacred space, blurring the lines between legend/fiction/reality.
